Removal of a reactive dye using NaOH-activated biochar prepared from peanut shell by pyrolysis process

Bilal Acemioglu

Summary: The study focused on using activated biochar produced from peanut shell wastes to remove the reactive dye RO-RGB from aqueous solution. It was found that the adsorption capacity increased with higher initial dye concentration and temperature, while decreasing with higher pH.

An Efficient Strategy for Enhancing the Adsorption Capabilities of Biochar via Sequential KMnO4-Promoted Oxidative Pyrolysis and H2O2 Oxidation

Siyao Bian et al.

Summary: Sequential KMnO4-promoted oxidative pyrolysis and H2O2 oxidation were employed to enhance the adsorption capacities of biochar for methylene blue and tetracycline in an aqueous solution. The co-modified biochar demonstrated significantly improved adsorption capabilities, surpassing single modified biochars and pristine biochar, with the optimal temperature identified as 300 degrees Celsius. The enhanced adsorption capabilities were mainly attributed to the incorporation of MnOx and carboxyl by KMnO4-promoted oxidative decomposition and Mn-catalyzed H2O2 oxidation.

Adsorption Characteristics of Phosphate Ions by Pristine, CaCl2 and FeCl3-Activated Biochars Originated from Tangerine Peels

Changgil Son et al.

Summary: Chemically-activated tangerine peel biochars showed enhanced efficiency in removing phosphate ions, with the adsorption process following pseudo-second-order kinetics or Langmuir model. However, the removal efficiency decreased with increasing ionic strength.

Adsorption of radioactive strontium by pristine and magnetic biochars derived from spent coffee grounds

Jaegwan Shin et al.

Summary: The FeCl3 pretreatment effectively magnetized the pristine SCG biochars, significantly increasing their specific surface area and total pore volume. However, it did not significantly improve the adsorption efficiency of Sr2+. The adsorption process was mainly controlled by monolayer adsorption, indicating that the FeCl3-pretreated SCG biochars could be recovered effectively through magnetic separation.
