Stress Path Analysis for Characterization of In Situ Stress State and Effect of Reservoir Depletion on Present-Day Stress Magnitudes: Reservoir Geomechanical Modeling in the Gulf of Suez Rift Basin, Egypt

Ahmed Radwan et al.

Summary: The study found that the stress state in the Badri field exhibits normal faulting tectonic characteristics, but the current depletion rate is unlikely to induce normal faulting or fault reactivation.

Assessment of pore pressure, wellbore failure and reservoir stability in the Gabo field, Niger Delta, Nigeria - Implications for drilling and reservoir management

Okechukwu Ebuka Agbasi et al.

Summary: This study investigates a 3400m thick Tertiary succession in the Niger Delta, presenting a geomechanical model to address pore pressure, borehole stability, and fault slip potential attributes. Different pressure gradients in various reservoirs were found, and optimal mud weight design was identified as a key factor in preventing wellbore issues.

Geomechanical modeling using the depth-of-damage approach to achieve successful underbalanced drilling in the Gulf of Suez rift basin

Wael K. Abdelghany et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that in the oil and gas reservoirs of the Gulf of Suez, underbalanced drilling can be conducted more effectively using the depth-of-damage approach rather than the previously used breakout-width-failure concept, which provided misleading results. This new method can enhance production performance and ensure the safety of the drilling process.

Effect of Depletion and Fluid Injection in the Mesozoic and Paleozoic Sandstone Reservoirs of the October Oil Field, Central Gulf of Suez Basin: Implications on Drilling, Production and Reservoir Stability

Ahmed A. Kassem et al.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the behavior of the Nezzazat and Nubia sandstone reservoirs in response to production-induced depletion and fluid injection for enhanced hydrocarbon recoveries. Through modeling pore pressure, vertical stress and minimum horizontal stress magnitudes, the study determined pressure drop in the reservoirs and proposed mud weight windows for drilling optimization. The research also evaluated reservoir stability during pressurization and assessed the maximum allowable pressure build-up during injection to ensure geomechanical stability.

The effect of fluid pressure on frictional stability transition from velocity strengthening to velocity weakening and critical slip distance evolution in shale reservoirs

Yunzhong Jia et al.

Summary: Research has shown that fluid pressure can influence the frictional stability characteristics of shale fractures, potentially increasing the likelihood of seismic slip, which may be a possible mechanism for fluid injection-induced seismicity in unconventional shale reservoirs.

Modeling In-situ tectonic stress state and maximum horizontal stress azimuth in the Central Algerian Sahara - A geomechanical study from El Agreb, El Gassi and Hassi Messaoud fields

Rafik Baouche et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the contemporary stress field of the central Algerian Sahara using dataset from drilled wells, indicating a strike-slip faulting stress field with specific stress distribution characteristics. Rock elastic properties revealed the range of S-hmin and S-Hmax components in Paleozoic formations, providing insights into fault slip potential and hydrocarbon reservoir development within the study area.
