JEG-3 placental cells in toxicology studies : a promising tool to reveal pregnancy disorders

Elodie Olivier et al.

Summary: Placental toxicology is not yet a fully-fledged field due to the perception of placenta as a barrier between mother and fetus, leading to a lack of experimental human models. A study established JEG-Tox cells as an in vitro experimental model for placenta toxicology, showing that they can trigger apoptosis in response to toxic agents implicated in placental alterations.
