Impact of Phosphate Availability on Membrane Lipid Content of the Model Strains, Streptomyces lividans and Streptomyces coelicolor

Summary: This study demonstrated that phospholipid content in Streptomyces lividans was significantly lower under Pi limitation compared to Pi proficiency, while ornithine lipid content increased under phosphate limitation for both strains. The involvement of sco1222-23 and sco0921-20 operons in ornithine lipid biosynthesis under phosphate limitation was shown to be positively controlled by the PhoR/PhoP two-component system. Moreover, SCO0920 was found to possess N-acyltransferase activity in addition to O-acyltransferase activity.
