Breastfeeding duration in infancy and dietary intake in childhood and adolescence

Fatima Kheir et al.

Summary: The study found associations between breastfeeding duration and dietary intake in childhood, with children breastfed > 6 months more likely to consume more vegetables and avoid sugar-sweetened beverages. However, these associations were no longer present in adolescence, and no associations were found for fruit intake or overall diet quality.

Yuck, This Biscuit Looks Lumpy! Neophobic Levels and Cultural Differences Drive Children's Check-All-That-Apply (CATA) Descriptions and Preferences for High-Fibre Biscuits

Pernilla Sandvik et al.

Summary: This study investigated the liking and sensory perception of fibre-rich biscuits in school-aged children with different degrees of food neophobia. Results showed that children with higher neophobia displayed lower liking for the biscuits, and there were also cross-cultural differences in liking. Additionally, appearance attributes were found to be drivers of disliking for neophobic children.

Children's Fruit and Vegetable Preferences Are Associated with Their Mothers' and Fathers' Preferences

Kaisa Kahkonen et al.

Summary: The study found significant variance in children's preferences, which were shown to be more aligned with the father's preferences rather than the mother's. Mothers' preferences for strong-tasting vegetables and berries, sweet-tasting fruit, and common vegetables were associated with their children's preferences, while fathers' preferences for these foods also influenced their children. Food neophobia and fathers' relaxed eating attitudes were found to decrease children's preferences for certain types of fruits and vegetables. These findings suggest the importance of targeted strategies to increase children's preferences for fruits and vegetables, taking both parents' influences into account.
