Interactions between biomass-derived components and polypropylene during wood-plastic composite pyrolysis

Xiaona Lin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the interactions between biomass components and polypropylene (PP) during the pyrolysis of wood-plastic composite (WPC). The results showed that PP could influence the pyrolysis pathways of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, leading to the formation of different pyrolysis products.

Investigation on the thermal degradation behavior of enzymatic hydrolysis lignin with or without steam explosion treatment characterized by TG-FTIR and Py-GC/MS

Xinyu Lu et al.

Summary: This study utilized enzymatic hydrolysis lignin (EHL) extracted from bio-ethanol production residue and purified it to remove cellulose and hemicellulose, obtaining purified lignin (EHL-P) through alkaline solution extraction. The thermal performance and pyrolytic product distribution of EHL-P-SE (obtained from EHL-P by steam explosion) were analyzed and compared with EHL-P. The results revealed differences in weight loss, char yields, and evolution of gaseous products between EHL-P and EHL-P-SE. The study also tracked the variations of phenols with increasing degradation temperature and found that demethoxylation was more likely to occur at higher temperatures.

Effects of carbamide pretreatment on product distribution and bio-oil composition from fast pyrolysis of pine powder

Dongmei Bi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of pyrolysis temperature and carbamide solution concentration on the distribution of products and the content of important compounds in bio-oil derived from carbamide-pretreated pine powder. The results showed that increasing the concentration of carbamide solution led to a decrease in bio-char yield. The highest bio-oil yield was achieved at a temperature of 400 degrees C and a carbamide solution concentration of 10%. Compared to bio-oil from raw pine powder, carbamide-impregnated pine powder produced bio-oil with a higher content of phenols and various nitrogenous compounds.

A study on the pyrolysis mechanism of a β-O-4 lignin dimer model compound using DFT combined with Py-GC/MS

Qingru Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, a lignin β-O-4 type dimer model compound was chosen and analyzed using density functional theory (DFT) method combined with Py-GC/MS to investigate its pyrolysis behavior. 9 reasonable reaction paths were studied by DFT, revealing that the main products of the lignin dimer model compound pyrolysis are 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol and 2-methoxyphenol.

Deactivation of CeO2-TiO2 catalyst by K2SO4 for NH3-SCR: An experimental and DFT study

Ye Jiang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the poisoning mechanism of K2SO4 on CeO2-TiO2 catalyst, finding that K2SO4 can affect the reducibility and surface acidity of the catalyst, inhibit NH3 adsorption, promote NOx adsorption, and decrease the reactivity of newly formed NOx. Additionally, the presence of K+ and SO42- simultaneously had an adverse effect on surface acidity and redox ability of the catalyst.
