Enoxaparin Attenuates Acute Lung Injury and Inflammasome Activation after Traumatic Brain Injury

Nadine A. Kerr et al.

Summary: This study found that treatment with enoxaparin attenuated inflammasome expression in the brain and lungs, decreased ALI score, and reduced neutrophil and macrophage infiltration in the lungs after TBI in mice. These results suggest that enoxaparin may have therapeutic potential by inhibiting the neural-respiratory inflammasome axis.

Aging and Microglial Response following Systemic Stimulation with Escherichia coli in Mice

Inge C. M. Hoogland et al.

Summary: Systemic challenge with live bacteria triggers an age-dependent neuro-inflammatory and microglial response in mice. Middle-aged mice show a stronger microglial response and higher brain expression levels of pro-inflammatory genes compared to young mice after intraperitoneal challenge with live E. coli. However, the expression levels of these genes in the systemic compartment are similar between middle-aged and young infected mice, indicating an age-dependent disconnection in the inflammatory transcriptional signature between brain and systemic compartment.
