Prevention and mitigation of alcohol-induced neuroinflammation byLactobacillus plantarumby an EGF receptor-dependent mechanism

Pradeep K. Shukla et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of Gut-Brain interactions in alcohol-induced neuroinflammation by manipulating intestinal dysbiosis in mice. The results showed that L. plantarum can alleviate ethanol-induced dysbiosis and neuroinflammation, and this effect is dependent on the EGFR receptor.

DNA Double-Strand Break Accumulation in Alzheimer's Disease: Evidence from Experimental Models and Postmortem Human Brains

Nidheesh Thadathil et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by progressive neurodegeneration with accumulation of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) playing an important role in its pathogenesis. Studies have shown increased DNA DSB accumulation and reduced repair function in the hippocampus of AD brains compared to non-AD brains. Additionally, altered levels of DNA repair proteins were observed in AD mouse models and cellular models, highlighting the potential influence of DNA DSB and repair proteins in the pathway toward neural damage and memory loss in AD.

New therapeutics beyond amyloid-β and tau for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease

Feng Zhang et al.

Summary: As the population ages, Alzheimer's disease will impose social and economic burdens globally. Current drugs for AD only provide symptomatic relief with limited impact on disease progression. Therefore, early diagnosis and multi-target interventions are crucial for promising outcomes in AD treatment.

Chronic stress and corticosterone exacerbate alcohol-induced tissue injury in the gut-liver-brain axis

Pradeep K. Shukla et al.

Summary: This study found that chronic restraint stress exacerbates alcohol-induced gut barrier dysfunction and liver damage in mice, and these effects were reproduced by corticosterone treatment. Corticosterone amplified alcohol-induced inflammatory responses and systemic inflammation, as well as exacerbated liver damage and neuroinflammation. Additionally, corticosterone modulated alcohol-induced changes in gut microbiota diversity and abundance, which may play a crucial role in stress-induced promotion of alcohol-associated tissue injury at the Gut-Liver-Brain axis.

Fecal microbiota transplantation ameliorates stress-induced depression-like behaviors associated with the inhibition of glial and NLRP3 inflammasome in rat brain

Jingjing Rao et al.

Summary: The study showed that fecal microbiota transplantation can improve depression-like behaviors induced by chronic unpredictable mild stress, potentially by suppressing the activation of glial cells and NLRP3 inflammasome in the brain.
