Poor groundwater quality and high potential health risks in the Datong Basin, northern China: research from published data

Xiaodong He et al.

Summary: The high concentration of pollutants in groundwater in Datong Basin is mainly influenced by local geological and climatic conditions, with some areas also impacted by agricultural activities; the groundwater exceeds the limits for arsenic, fluoride, iodine, and nitrate, posing high health risks for residents.

Removal of Cadmium from Contaminated Groundwater Using a Novel Silicon/Aluminum Nanomaterial: An Experimental Study

Hanghang Zhao et al.

Summary: A novel eco-friendly adsorbent was synthesized using coal fly ash, significantly enhancing the adsorption capacity for Cd2+. Functional groups of Na-O and Fe-O were found to be beneficial for the removal of Cd2+. The adsorption efficiency of the adsorbent remained high even after two regeneration cycles, showing potential for high-performance Cd2+ removal.

Hydrous cerium oxides coated glass fiber for efficient and long-lasting arsenic removal from drinking water

Ronghui Li et al.

Summary: A novel arsenic adsorbent HCO/GFC synthesized for arsenic removal from contaminated groundwater showed high efficiency in removing As(V) and As(III) even at low equilibrium concentrations. Without pre-treatment, the filter can easily remove the more toxic As(III) within a wide range of solution pH. Test results demonstrated good arsenic removal performance of HCO/GFC filter.

Hydrogeochemical Processes Affecting Groundwater Chemistry in the Central Part of the Guanzhong Basin, China

Xiaofei Ren et al.

Summary: Groundwater quality in the central part of the Guanzhong Basin, China is mainly controlled by hydrogeochemical processes and anthropogenic pollution. Both mineral dissolution/precipitation and human activities are identified as key factors affecting groundwater quality in this area.
