Summary: Giga-grade martensitic advanced high-strength steels are susceptible to sub-critical heat-affected zone softening during resistance spot welding, affecting the strength of the welds. To achieve strong and reliable weld joints, control of martensitic tempering in the heat-affected zone and use of the minimum welding current are necessary.
