Fabrication of sustainable magnesium phosphate cement micromortar using design of experiments statistical modelling: Valorization of ceramic-stone-porcelain containing waste as filler

S. Huete-Hernandez et al.

Summary: Magnesium phosphate cement (MPC) is a sustainable alternative to Portland cement, and by using by-products and wastes as raw materials, the total CO2 emissions can be reduced. This study successfully incorporated ceramic, stone, and porcelain waste (CSP) as a filler in sustainable magnesium phosphate cement (sust-MPC), achieving optimized compressive strength by maximizing the utilization of CSP particles in the ceramic matrix.

Magnesium potassium phosphate cements to immobilize radioactive concrete wastes generated by decommissioning of nuclear power plants

Jae-Young Pyo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that MKPCs can effectively immobilize radioactive concrete wastes generated by the decommissioning of nuclear power plants. The addition of simulated concrete powder wastes reduces porosity and increases compressive strength of MKPC specimens. MKPCs maintain satisfactory compressive strength and leachability indices after thermal cycling and immersion.

Temperature transformation of blended magnesium potassium phosphate cement binders

Laura J. Gardner et al.

Summary: In this study, a multi-technique approach was used to determine the high temperature performance of blended MKPC binders for nuclear waste immobilisation applications. The reaction between MKPC and FA/GBFS components resulted in the formation of potassium aluminosilicate phases. The study demonstrated that blended MKPC binders can satisfactorily perform under high temperature conditions relevant to the operation of a geological disposal facility.
