The interaction between host and guest molecules was characterized by NMR, revealing an increase in solubility of 5-aminolevulinic acid in water. Moreover, the encapsulates showed potential for delivering 5-aminolevulinic acid to cells without cytotoxic effects, and aqueous encapsulates were found to be more effective in this regard.
