CFD simulations on high-buoyancy gas dispersion in the wake of an isolated cubic building using steady RANS model and LES

Chao Lin et al.

Summary: The study used computational fluid dynamics simulations to predict the dispersion of high-buoyancy exhaust gas from buildings and validated the results with wind tunnel experiments. It was found that the steady RANS model showed good agreement with time-averaged velocity but underestimated turbulent kinetic energy, while LES accurately predicted both. RANS model predicted high time-averaged concentration near the exhaust port but overestimated ground-level values, while LES adequately predicted both time-averaged and fluctuating concentrations. An investigation into the turbulent Schmidt number Sc-t in RANS model revealed that a small Sc-t increased overall prediction accuracy, while a large Sc-t compensated for overestimation on ground-level time-averaged concentrations.

CFD modelling of an animal occupied zone using an anisotropic porous medium model with velocity depended resistance parameters

E. Moustapha Doumbia et al.

Summary: The airflow in dairy barns is influenced by various factors, and while CFD is widely used in livestock building research, there is a need for smart numerical models to improve efficiency due to limited computing power. The study considers porous medium modeling as a solution to this issue.
