Selective autophagy regulates heat stress memory inArabidopsisby NBR1-mediated targeting of HSP90 and ROF1

Venkatesh P. Thirumalaikumar et al.

Summary: Plants experience various stresses in their growth process, and autophagy plays an important role in regulating plant recovery and memory of heat stress. NBR1 functions as a receptor for selective autophagy during recovery from heat stress, interacting with HSP90.1 and ROF1 to mediate protein degradation and modulate the response to heat stress. Loss of NBR1 function results in a stronger memory phenotype for heat stress in plants.

Whole-genome sequence data of Hypericum perforatum and functional characterization of melatonin biosynthesis by N-acetylserotonin O-methyltransferase

Wen Zhou et al.

Summary: This study presents a high-quality genome for Hypericum perforatum and identifies key genes related to melatonin, hyperforin, and hypericin synthesis. Functional characterization of HpASMT3 protein showed its ability to convert N-acetylserotonin into melatonin, resulting in higher drought tolerance in plants through overexpression of HpASMT1 and HpASMT3. The genomic data obtained provide new resources for the study of Hypericaceae family evolution and melatonin biosynthetic pathways in other plants.

Transpiration increases under high-temperature stress: Potential mechanisms, trade-offs and prospects for crop resilience in a warming world

Walid Sadok et al.

Summary: As climate change intensifies, the frequency and intensity of high-temperature stress events are expected to increase, along with a global increase in evaporative demand. Studies have found that plants can increase transpiration rate in response to high-temperature stress, leading to a trade-off between latent heat dissipation and water conservation. Research is needed to investigate the mechanisms behind plant responses to high-temperature stress and design new crop varieties for enhanced productivity under warmer and drier climates.
