An expedient survey and characterization of the soybean JAGGED 1 (GmJAG1) transcription factor binding preference in the soybean genome by modified ChIPmentation on soybean protoplasts

Mingkun Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, the modified ChIPmentation protocol was successfully used in soybean protoplasts to identify binding sites of the C2H2-type zinc finger TF GmJAG1. Furthermore, a novel GmJAG1-binding motif, epigenetic characteristics, and enhancer-like function of GmJBSs were also discovered.

Genomic basis of geographical adaptation to soil nitrogen in rice

Yongqiang Liu et al.

Summary: This study uncovers the genetic basis of nitrogen-use efficiency in rice, specifically related to tillering response to nitrogen, and identifies OsTCP19 as a key regulator modulating this response. The differential transcriptional response and variation in tillering response to nitrogen among rice varieties are governed by a 29-bp insertion and/or deletion in the OsTCP19 promoter, with implications for geographical adaptation in rice and potential for breeding high-yielding, nitrogen-efficient modern rice cultivars.

Conserved pleiotropy of an ancient plant homeobox gene uncovered by cis-regulatory dissection

Anat Hendelman et al.

Summary: The study explores the functional divergence of WOX9 in tomato and reveals hidden pleiotropic roles through a comprehensive allelic series. Mimicking these alleles in Arabidopsis exposes new inflorescence phenotypes, indicating deeply conserved pleiotropy in gene function. The findings suggest that targeted cis-regulatory mutations can uncover conserved gene functions and reduce undesirable effects in crop improvement.

Altered chromatin architecture and gene expression during polyploidization and domestication of soybean

Longfei Wang et al.

Summary: The research found that polyploidization in soybean may induce changes in chromosome structure, and subsequent diploidization may affect chromatin topology. Compared to single-copy and small-scale duplicated genes, WGD genes exhibit more chromosomal interactions, along with higher levels of gene expression, but lack DNA methylation. Additionally, chromatin loop reorganization is involved in gene expression divergence during soybean domestication.
