Serious adverse events with tocilizumab: Pharmacovigilance as an aid to prioritize monitoring in COVID-19

Milo Gatti et al.

Summary: This study analyzed serious adverse events caused by the use of tocilizumab, identifying liver injury, pancreatitis, and pulmonary fibrosis as unpredictable adverse reactions that may occur in patients. These findings could support patient care and monitoring in ongoing clinical trials involving chronic real-world tocilizumab use.

Alveolar epithelial cell type II as main target of SARS-CoV-2 virus and COVID-19 development via NF-Kb pathway deregulation: A physio-pathological theory

Maurizio Carcaterra et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic requires global collaborative efforts to define preventive and treatment strategies. One major challenge is the high number of patients requiring advanced respiratory support, with inflammation potentially playing a key role. Future therapeutic efforts may focus on targeting Type II alveolar cells to address the molecular pathogenic drivers associated with their dysfunction.

The Role and Therapeutic Potential of NF-kappa-B Pathway in Severe COVID-19 Patients

Apurva Hariharan et al.

Summary: COVID-19 causes a cytokine storm mainly affecting the lungs, with elderly and patients with metabolic syndrome being more susceptible. Immunomodulation targeting NF-kappa B activation and inhibitors can potentially reduce the cytokine storm, alleviating the severity of COVID-19. Inhibition of the NF-kappa B pathway may play a therapeutic role in alleviating severe forms of COVID-19.

Tetracycline and viruses: a possible treatment for COVID-19?

Jesus A. Mosquera-Sulbaran et al.

Summary: Tetracyclines, commonly used to treat bacterial infections, have shown potential in treating viral infections. They can act on viral infections either through their antibacterial properties or through direct antiviral action, which might represent a strategy for eliminating the infection or inhibiting the progression of COVID-19.
