Solvothermal Crystallization of Ag/AgxO-AgCl Composites: Effect of Different Chloride Sources/Shape-Tailoring Agents

Controlled formation of Ag-AgxO nanoparticles on the surface of commercial TiO2 based composites for enhanced photocatalytic degradation of oxalic acid and phenol

Summary: The possibility of enhancing the photocatalytic efficiency of titanium dioxide (TiO2) by modifying its surface with silver (Ag) nanoparticles has been studied. The results showed that the deposition of silver nanoparticles on the surface of rutile phase TiO2 can enhance the efficiency of charge separation, while the amorphous AgO nanoparticles obtained on the surface of anatase phase TiO2 also have similar effects. The composites consisting of commercial TiO2 mixtures and silver nanoparticles exhibited higher efficiency in the photocatalytic degradation of oxalic acid compared to the commercial TiO2 mixtures, but the silver nanoparticles were found to be unstable during the experiments.
