Estimations of FH•••X hydrogen bond energies from IR intensities: Iogansen's rule revisited

Elena Yu Tupikina et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of using IR intensity to estimate hydrogen bond strength, confirming the linear relationship between stretching vibrations and hydrogen bond enthalpy within a certain range of complexation energies. Furthermore, two other parameters related to IR intensity were found to be useful descriptors of hydrogen bond strength. The study also proposed simple equations for estimating hydrogen bond strength in various systems where experimental methods or direct calculations are challenging.

Crystalline Peroxosolvates: Nature of the Coformer, Hydrogen-Bonded Networks and Clusters, Intermolecular Interactions

Alexander G. Medvedev et al.

Summary: Recent advances in X-ray diffractometers have significantly increased the number of structurally characterized peroxosolvates over the past 20 years, providing deeper insights into their stability. The analysis of structural databases revealed that co-formers in crystalline peroxosolvates can be classified into three main groups, with hydrogen bonding playing a crucial role in the crystal structures. Energentic computations using density functional theory have also shed light on the stability of peroxosolvates and their resistance to isomorphic transformations.

1,3,5-Triaza-7-Phosphaadamantane (PTA) as a 31P NMR Probe for Organometallic Transition Metal Complexes in Solution

Ilya G. Shenderovich

Summary: The P-31 chemical shift of 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA) is solely influenced by non-covalent interactions, with a maximum change of 6 ppm due to hydrogen bonding, but over 100 ppm when the phosphorus atom is coordinated to a metal. This difference can be utilized to validate or refute structural models of organometallic transition metal complexes by comparing experimental and DFT calculated values.

Modeling of Solute-Solvent Interactions Using an External Electric Field-From Tautomeric Equilibrium in Nonpolar Solvents to the Dissociation of Alkali Metal Halides

Ilya G. Shenderovich et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the importance of using the polarizable continuum approximation in solvent effect calculations to distinguish between the macroscopic reaction field of the solvent and specific solute-solvent interactions. Additionally, experimental data highlights the significance of the solvent effect in nonpolar solvents.

Summary: This study demonstrates that tert-butylphosphonic acid forms highly symmetric cage-like tetramers held by eight OHO hydrogen bonds, with each molecule bonded to three others through hydrogen bonding. The self-associate structure is close to tetrahedral, but has a formal symmetry of C-2.

Structure-Property Relationship in Selected Naphtho- and Anthra-Quinone Derivatives on the Basis of Density Functional Theory and Car-Parrinello Molecular Dynamics

Beata Kizior et al.

Summary: Intra- and inter-molecular interactions were studied in 2,3-dichloro-5,8-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone and 1,4-dihydroxy-anthraquinone using Density Functional Theory, Time-Dependent extension, and Car-Parrinello Molecular Dynamics. It was found that the presence of a polar solvent decreased the energy barrier for bridged proton transfer, but did not significantly affect aromaticity and electronic structure. The mutual polarization of monomers in the dimers was weak, with dispersion being responsible for most of the intermolecular attraction.
