Backgrounds in gravitational effective field theory

V. Alan Kostelecky et al.

Summary: This study investigates effective field theories describing gravity coupled to matter with operators of arbitrary mass dimensions, including violations of local Lorentz and diffeomorphism invariance while preserving internal gauge symmetries. Theoretical frameworks for these violations, including transformations in various spacetimes and symmetry breaking implications, are discussed. Techniques for constructing effective operators and explicit expressions for terms containing operators of mass dimension six or less in the effective action for general relativity coupled to the Standard Model are presented. Special cases, such as Einstein-Maxwell effective field theories and scalar coupling constants, are also considered.

3+1 formulation of the standard model extension gravity sector

Kellie O'Neal-Ault et al.

Summary: The study presents a 3 + 1 formulation of the standard model extension in the gravitational sector, adopting an explicit local Lorentz and diffeomorphism symmetry breaking assumption. The main application is in cosmology, where modified Friedmann equations are presented, showing intriguing modifications to standard cosmology. The results are compared to existing frameworks and models, with potential impact to other areas of gravitational theory and phenomenology.

Black holes with a cosmological constant in bumblebee gravity

R. Maluf et al.

Summary: This work introduces black hole solutions with a cosmological constant in bumblebee gravity, where the nonzero vacuum expectation value of the bumblebee field leads to Lorentz symmetry violation. These solutions are spherically symmetric black holes with an effective cosmological constant, supported by an anisotropic energy-momentum tensor. The study calculates the shadow angular radius for the proposed black hole solution, establishing a relationship between the bumblebee field and the shadow angular size for the first time.
