Non-stomatal limitation of photosynthesis by soil salinity

Ting Pan et al.

Summary: This study summaries the impact of salinity on chloroplast metabolism and operation, discusses potential solutions to minimize its effects on plants, and suggests that enhancing plant protection capacity may be a promising way to improve tolerance to salt stress under real-field conditions. By revealing the molecular nature of chloroplast ion transporters and understanding their operation modes, the future sustainability of world agriculture and prospects of biological phytoremediation of salinized land can be ensured.

Drought tolerance in high-generation transgenic maize inbred lines overexpressing the betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase gene

He Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the drought tolerance of high-generation BADH transgenic maize inbred lines through molecular detection, osmotic stress experiments, and membership function quantification. The results showed that the transgenic maize lines exhibited better drought tolerance, higher levels of antioxidant enzymes, lower accumulation of harmful substances, and Dan988-BADH-4 displayed the best tolerance. These findings support the potential use of these transgenic maize lines in further breeding experiments for improved drought resistance.

Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of Persian walnut usingBADHgene for salt and drought tolerance

Fatemeh Rezaei Qusheh Bolagh et al.

Summary: Transgenic walnuts expressing the BADH gene showed enhanced tolerance to salt and drought stress conditions compared to their wild-type counterparts. The integration of the BADH transgene was successfully confirmed through PCR and Southern blot analysis. This research demonstrates the potential of utilizing transgenic walnut plants for breeding programs aimed at improving resistance to salinity and drought.
