Recovery of nanosized silica and lignin from sugarcane bagasse waste and their engineering in fabrication of composite membrane for water purification

Summary: A catalytic process utilizing acid catalyst and a combination of peroxide and base was developed to convert sugarcane bagasse into functional nanomaterials. The synthesized silica and lignin nanomaterials were used to fabricate a functional membrane for purification of solute particles and gases, showing promising results for filtration of contaminated water and air purification.

Enhanced crystallinity and thermal properties of cellulose from rice husk using acid hydrolysis treatment

Summary: Cellulose was extracted from rice husk using an integrated delignification process involving alkaline treatment and acid hydrolysis. HNO3 treatment increased cellulose content and crystallinity, with slightly improved thermal properties. Economic analysis showed chlorine extraction yielded higher cellulose recovery but lower total operation costs compared to HNO3.
