Factors Associated with the Need for Assistance among the Elderly in Malaysia

Nazarudin Safian et al.

Summary: This study found that factors associated with the need for assistance among the elderly in Malaysia include financial difficulties, hearing problems, severe limitations in daily activities over the past 6 months, and specific daily activities such as eating, standing, and walking. Policies should include preventive measures to ensure the sustainability of care for the elderly and promote healthy aging.

Addressing loneliness and social isolation amongst elderly people through local co-production in Japan

Kohei Suzuki et al.

Summary: Loneliness and social isolation have become significant problems in contemporary Japan due to the aging population. Financial constraints, combined with ongoing fiscal austerity, have limited the ability of local authorities to address the issue. Policymakers are exploring cost-effective solutions, such as local co-production with community groups, to combat social isolation among older adults.
