Effects of Soil Nutrient Heterogeneity on the Growth and Invasion Success of Alien Plants: A Multi-Species Study

Fang-Lei Gao et al.

Summary: The study found that soil nutrient heterogeneity has a positive effect on the growth of invasive plants but does not significantly affect their relative abundance or support the idea that soil nutrient heterogeneity favors the invasion success of exotic plant species in native plant communities.

Growth and nutrient responses of Betula platyphylla, Larix kaempferi, and Chamaecyparis obtusa to different application methods of solid compound fertilizer

Jeong Min Seo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of different placement methods of slow-release fertilizer on the growth and nutrient acquisition of three tree species. The results showed that subsurface placement was most effective for aboveground biomass and nitrogen uptake, while bottom placement was effective for root length and biomass. These findings are relevant for enhancing growth and survival of economically important forest tree species, particularly in challenging terrain or marginal lands.

Optimal Irrigation Regime for Woody Species Potentially Suitable for Effective and Sustainable Afforestation in the Desert Region of Mongolia

Ser-Oddamba Byambadorj et al.

Summary: Long-term studies on plant response mechanisms to different irrigation regimes in a desert environment showed that the optimal irrigation regime varied for different woody species, with 4 L h(-1) being ideal for Tamarix ramosissima, Ulmus pumila, and Elaeagnus moorcroftii, and 8 and/or 12 L h(-1) for Hippophae rhamnoides. The study highlights the importance of selecting appropriate irrigation strategies for sustainable afforestation in arid and semiarid landscapes.
