Mobilising evidence, data, and resources to achieve global maternal and child undernutrition targets and the Sustainable Development Goals: an agenda for action

Rebecca A. Heidkamp et al.

Summary: As the world approaches the 2025 World Health Assembly nutrition targets and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, millions of women, children, and adolescents worldwide remain undernourished, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is necessary to renew commitment and implement interventions with increased funding from both domestic and global sources to address this global challenge. Multisectoral actions and well-resourced nutrition data systems are essential to tackle the unfinished undernutrition agenda, now amplified by the crisis.

Perspective: How to Develop Nutrient Profiling Models Intended for Global Use: A Manual

Adam Drewnowski et al.

Summary: Nutrient profiling models aim to assess the nutritional quality of foods based on energy content and nutrient composition, but they need to be adjusted for use in low- and middle-income countries to address issues such as undernutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. Models focusing on beneficial nutrients may be more suitable for these countries, and they also need to consider food fortification to address the balance between excess empty calories and inadequate nutrients at the population level.
