Identification of the Interferon-Inducible GTPase GBP1 as a Major Restriction Factor for Hepatitis E Virus

Mirco Glitscher et al.

Summary: This study identifies GBP1 as a restriction factor affecting the life cycle of HEV, with its antiviral effect not dependent on GTPase function but on its capacity to homodimerize and target HEV to the lysosomal compartment. Furthermore, the antiviral effect of IFN-gamma on HEV strongly depends on GBP1. These findings could contribute to the development of novel antivirals.

Clinical Outcomes and Prevalence of Hepatitis E Virus (HEV) Among Non-A-C Hepatitis Patients in Egypt

Ibrahim M. Sayed et al.

Summary: The study revealed the prevalence of acute HEV infection in Upper Egypt, with older patients with malignancy and/or a history of liver diseases being more susceptible to the infection and complications. Furthermore, the importance of HEV diagnosis and treatment in Egyptian hospitals was emphasized to reduce fatality rates.

Stability of hepatitis E virus at high hydrostatic pressure processing

R. Johne et al.

Summary: Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is the causative agent of acute and chronic hepatitis in humans, mainly transmitted through consumption of meat products prepared from infected pigs or wild boars. High hydrostatic pressure processing (HPP) can effectively reduce HEV infectivity, depending on the pressure height and duration of the treatment.
