Interstory drift ratio associated with performance objectives for shallow-buried multistory and span subway stations in inhomogeneous soil profiles

Summary: This paper defines four levels of performance objectives for shallow-buried subway station structures and develops corresponding interstory drift ratios (IDRs) by conducting pushover analyses on 18 subway station structures. The study shows that considering vertical ground motion results in smaller IDRs limits compared to not considering it. These proposed IDR limits could provide guidance for seismic design of underground structures and may serve as a basis for developing appropriate performance limits for seismic provisions in design codes related to underground structures.
