Morpho-Physiological Characterization of Diverse Rice Genotypes for Seedling Stage High- and Low-Temperature Tolerance

Summary: Extreme temperatures have significant impacts on the growth and development of rice, with low temperatures inhibiting traits and high temperatures positively influencing shoot and root development. Chlorophyll fluorescence-related parameters declined under both low and high temperatures. Different mechanisms of low- and high-temperature tolerance were observed at the early seedling stage, with specific rice genotypes identified for their tolerance to either low or high temperatures. Genotypes performing well under both low and high temperatures will be valuable genetic resources for breeders to develop early-season high- and low-temperature-tolerant rice varieties in a wide range of environments.
