Acceleration of the photocatalytic degradation of organics by in-situ removal of the products of degradation

Summary: The photocatalytic degradation of sulphur-containing organics in water can be significantly accelerated by in-situ removal of sulphur oxide species formed during dye degradation. The presence of alkaline earth cations like Ca2+, Sr2+, and Ba2+ can greatly enhance the degradation of sulphur-containing organics such as methylene blue and acid yellow 42.
