Electrohydrodynamics of dielectric droplet collision on different wettability surfaces

Summary: This study investigates the electrohydrodynamics of a dielectric liquid droplet impact on superhydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces, uncovering various regimes of droplet behavior and proposing a semi-analytical model to explain the observed phenomena. The results show that changes in electric field intensity can significantly affect droplet rebound on superhydrophobic surfaces, leading to unique droplet motions and stress distributions. Additionally, the spreading behavior of droplets on both types of surfaces is discussed, showing an increasing trend with higher electro-capillary numbers. The formulated analytical model based on energy conservation demonstrates good agreement with experimental observations and a phase map is developed to explain post-impact droplet dynamics on superhydrophobic surfaces.
