Manganese-Catalyzed Deoxygenative [3+2] Annulations of Ketones and Aldehydes via C-H Activation

Summary: A novel reactive site of aromatic ketones towards aldehydes was revealed by using manganese catalysis, leading to the first deoxygenative [3+2] annulations of ketones and aldehydes through C-H activation. Mechanistic studies suggest the dual role of triphenylborane additive in promoting C-H activation and activating aldehydes as a Lewis acid.
