Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Colorectal Cancer Screening Program

Valeria D'Ovidio et al.

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of patients receiving colorectal cancer screening colonoscopies decreased, but more cases of colorectal cancer and high-risk adenomas were found during the lockdown period. Multiple regression analysis identified relevant symptoms, family history, and lockdown period as independent predictors of high-risk lesions. No COVID-19 infections were reported among staff and patients.

Factors contributing to the distress, concerns, and needs of UK Neuroscience health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic

Lisa Cipolotti et al.

Summary: Research from China suggests that health care workers are at risk of distress and specific concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. An online survey at a neuroscience hospital in the UK found a high incidence of distress, which was particularly prevalent in females and staff with previous mental health history. Concerns fell into three factors and were affected by professional role and contact with COVID-19 patients. Psychological support and clear updates were deemed most useful, with specific needs influenced by individual staff characteristics. Providing tailored, one-to-one support interventions based on professional group and background is crucial for stress reduction and resilience in health care staff.

Assessing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) transmission to healthcare personnel: The global ACT-HCP case-control study

Robert J. Lentz et al.

Summary: This case-control study found that healthcare personnel (HCP) infection with COVID-19 was associated with non-aerosol-generating contact with patients and extra-occupational exposures. Use of respirators during aerosol-generating procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment were protective against HCP infection. Closer scrutiny of infection control measures in healthcare settings and continued awareness of the risks of public congregation may help reduce the incidence of HCP infection.
