Dielectric Resonant Metaphotonics

Kirill Koshelev et al.

Summary: The rapid progress in subwavelength optics and nanophotonics is supported by Mie resonances in high refractive index nanoparticles, which provides a new platform for light localization and opens up new horizons for metamaterial-enabled photonics. This review paper discusses recent advances in Mie-resonant metaphotonics for high-index dielectric nanoparticles and metasurfaces, as well as their applications in topological photonics, while also outlining future developments in this field and its connections to other research areas.

Tunable Chiral Optics in All-Solid-Phase Reconfigurable Dielectric Nanostructures

Jingang Li et al.

Summary: A study has reported reconfigurable chiral nanostructures with silicon nanoparticles and nanowires, allowing for tailored configurations and chiroptical responses. The optical chirality arises from the coupling between optical resonances of the silicon nanoparticle and nanowire, enabling label-free enantiodiscrimination of biomolecules in single structures. This research provides insights into high-index material design and new strategies for adaptive devices in photonic and electronic applications.

Using Circular Dichroism to Control Energy Transfer in Multiphoton Ionization

A. H. N. C. De Silva et al.

Summary: Chirality-induced symmetry breaks were investigated in a simple chiral system consisting of laser-excited, oriented Li atoms in an optical trap exposed to circularly polarized femtosecond laser pulses. The experiment resulted in strong circular dichroism and significant changes in photoelectron energies, showing potential for creating spin-polarized electron pulses with reversible switching on a femtosecond timescale.

From Fano to Quasi-BIC Resonances in Individual Dielectric Nanoantennas

Elizaveta Melik-Gaykazyan et al.

Summary: There is a close connection between Fano and quasi-BIC resonances in high-index dielectric nanostructures, which show great potential for applications in nanoscale lasers and sensors. Our experimental results demonstrate the relationship and suggest a unified approach for analyzing sharp resonances in subwavelength nanostructures.
