Role of G-Substrate in the NO/cGMP/PKG Signal Transduction Pathway for Photic Entrainment of the Hamster Circadian Clock

Santiago Andres Plano et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated the role of G-substrate as a downstream effector in the NO/cGMP/PKG photic pathway in the hamster SCN. They found that phosphorylated G-substrate (p-GS) could act as a protein phosphatase 2 A (PP2A) inhibitor, and demonstrated a physical interaction between p-GS and PP2A in SCN homogenates. Moreover, they showed that GS phosphorylation increased after light pulses and intraperitoneal treatment with an inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 5, while treatment with a PKG inhibitor reduced photic phosphorylation of GS.
