Auto-Fluorescent Phytoliths: A New Method for Detecting Heating and Fire

Yannick Devos et al.

Summary: Various methods have been used to identify whether phytoliths have been heated or burned, but none of them provide satisfactory results for distinguishing between different states of phytoliths. Research has shown that phytoliths commonly exhibit auto-fluorescence after being heated, which complements previously developed proxies for heating and burning.
