Inhibition of biofilm formation, quorum sensing and other virulence factors in Pseudomonas aeruginosa by polyphenols of Gynura procumbens leaves

Zulkar Nain et al.

Summary: This study found that the leaf extract of Gynura procumbens (GP) has quorum quenching (QQ) activity and can inhibit biofilm formation and virulence factors in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The identified polyphenols, quercetin and myricetin, show promising anti-QS activity and stable binding interactions with QS receptors. These findings suggest that GP leaves and the identified polyphenols can be used in developing QQ-based therapeutics.

Pentacylic triterpenes from Lavandula coronopifolia: structure related inhibitory activity on α-glucosidase

Marwa Elsbaey et al.

Summary: Ten pentacyclic triterpenes were isolated from Lavandula coronopifolia, with several compounds showing superior alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Structural requirements for this activity were identified through synthesis of derivatives, highlighting the significance of a free hydroxyl at ring-A and a free carboxylic group at position 28. Enzyme kinetic analysis of the most potent compound pomolic acid 2 revealed a mixed-type inhibition, which was validated through molecular docking simulation.

Coupling the high-resolution LC-MS characterisation of the phenolic compounds with the antimicrobial and antibiofilm properties of helencha (Enydra fluctuans Lour.)

Tanmay Kumar Koley et al.

Summary: This study identified 25 potentially-bioactive phenolic compounds from the polyphenol profile of the underutilised aquatic leafy vegetable, helencha. The extract showed antibiofilm properties against human pathogenic bacteria and molecular docking studies indicated strong binding interactions with the active site of LasR protein of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, suggesting potential for development of novel neutraceutical products and lead compounds for controlling biofilm producing pathogenic microorganisms.
