Porous PTFE reinforced SPEEK proton exchange membranes for enhanced mechanical, dimensional, and electrochemical stability

Gi-Chul Park et al.

Summary: In this study, the pores of PTFE film were filled with SPEEK electrolyte molecules to prepare proton exchange membranes with enhanced mechanical, dimensional, and electrochemical stability for fuel cell applications. Various analyses were conducted to investigate the chemical composition, morphology, and wettability of the porous PTFE film. The prepared pore-filled electrolyte membranes showed superior mechanical and dimensional stability, leading to stable electrochemical cell performance over repeated wet/dry cycles.

Anion exchange polyelectrolytes for membranes and ionomers

Nanjun Chen et al.

Summary: Anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs) are considered a low-cost alternative to proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) for clean energy conversion, as they utilize non-platinum group metals as electrocatalysts under alkaline conditions. The development of high-performance anion-exchange polyelectrolytes (AEPs) has led to significant progress in power density and durability of AEMFCs, making them comparable to or even better than PEMFCs.
