Summary: Increasing Ni content in Ni-rich layered positive electrode material improves energy density but reduces cell lifetimes. Single crystalline materials can enhance cell lifetimes by decreasing material degradation. Further research is needed to improve the competitiveness of Mg-containing single crystal materials compared to their polycrystalline counterparts.
