This article reports on two complex scaphoid dislocations that demonstrate axial instability, as well as disruption of the capitohamate articulation and the long-ring metacarpal relationship. The patients underwent reduction and fixation using a wrist spanning plate, and follow-up showed maintained reduction, axial stability, and a return to painless range of motion.
Isolated dislocation of the scaphoid is a rare injury with only a few case reports in the literature. We report on 2 complex scaphoid dislocations demonstrating concomitant axial instability with disruption of the capitohamate articulation as well as the long -ring metacarpal relationship. Both of these patients underwent reduction and fixation using a wrist spanning plate, which was removed approximately 2 months after injury. Follow-up of these patients demonstrated maintenance of reduction, axial stability, and return of painless range of motion. (J Hand Surg Am. 2022;47(3):293.e1-e8.
