Re-purposing of domestic steam disinfectors within the hospital-at-home setting

Beverley C. Millar et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the temperature performance of steam disinfectors and the impact of potential operator misuse on the survival of 62 bacteria and yeast organisms. Results showed that steam disinfection eradicated all organisms tested, including those inside contaminated babies' bottle teats. Therefore, domestic steam disinfection is an inexpensive, simple, versatile, and widely available technology for enhancing patient safety in hospital-at-home settings.
