Green-plasticized poly(lactic acid)/nanofibrillated cellulose biocomposites with high strength, good toughness and excellent heat resistance

Linqiong Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of NFC significantly improved the strength and toughness of PLA composites, as well as enhanced their thermal stability. After ATBC plasticization, the strength and thermal properties of PLA/NFC composites did not decrease. Additionally, at 6 wt% NFC content, the strength and modulus of the prepared composites were comparable to pure PLA, with an increase in elongation and toughness by approximately 259% and 121%, respectively.

UV Reconfigurable Shape Memory Polyurethane with a High Recovery Ratio under Large Deformation

Jing Hu et al.

Summary: A new type of shape memory thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was developed in this research, with photoresponsive anthracene groups incorporated into the hard segment to control stability and recoverability. This material achieved a high shape-fixing/recovery ratio and good performance even under large deformation, as well as free construction of three-dimensional shapes through photodimerization of anthracene groups.

Poly(lactic acid) bio-composites containing biochar particles: Effects of fillers and plasticizer on crystallization and thermal properties

T. Haeldermans et al.

Summary: Biochar is commonly used as a filler material in biodegradable composites for its favorable thermal and mechanical properties. The study shows that as the biochar content increases in PLA/biochar composites, the thermal degradation temperature decreases, while in PLA/TPS/biochar composites, the impact of biochar is shielded by TPS. This work highlights the shielding effect TPS has on biochar and its potential for optimizing the production and biodegradability of these composites.

Non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of polypropylene/polytetrafluoroethylene fibrillated composites

Yuhui Qiao et al.

Summary: The non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of PP/PTFE fibrillated composites were analyzed using the Mo equation, revealing that low PTFE content promoted fast nucleation while high PTFE content hindered crystal growth. Additionally, the PTFE nanofibers were found to significantly affect the crystallization behavior, leading to a decrease in the size of PP spherulites.
