Activation of the 15-lipoxygenase pathway in aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease

Summary: This study found that the expression of the gene encoding for 15-lipoxygenase (15-LO), ALOX15, was significantly elevated in nasal polyps of patients with AERD compared to patients with CRSwNP and controls. The interaction between epithelial cells and mast cells leading to the synthesis of 15-Oxo-ETE through the 15-LO pathway may contribute to the enhanced sinonasal disease severity observed in AERD. These findings suggest a dysregulation in arachidonic acid metabolism in AERD patients.
