Pericytes contribute to the islet basement membranes to promote beta-cell gene expression

Lina Sakhneny et al.

Summary: Pericytes produce multiple components of the pancreatic and islet BM matrices, including laminins that regulate beta-cell function. The findings suggest that pericytes play a significant role in supporting beta-cells and insulin secretion in the islets.

The many lives of Myc in the pancreatic β-cell

Carolina Rosselot et al.

Summary: Recent studies suggest that appropriate levels of Myc could have therapeutic potential for beta-cell regeneration by enhancing cell replication without inducing cell death or loss of insulin secretion. Previous studies using pathophysiological or supraphysiological levels of Myc reported enhanced beta-cell death, dedifferentiation, or formation of insulinomas, reducing enthusiasm for Myc as a therapeutic target.
