Proximity to injury, but neither number of nuclei nor ploidy define pathological adaptation and plasticity in cardiomyocytes

Michael Hesse et al.

Summary: Researchers investigated transcriptomes and cellular features of mononuclear and binuclear cardiomyocytes in adult mouse hearts, finding that mononuclear cardiomyocytes generally had a higher ploidy level. However, gene expression profiles and injury responses in cardiomyocytes were independent of the number of nuclei or ploidy levels.
