A systematic review of neurological symptoms and complications of COVID-19

Xiangliang Chen et al.

Summary: The study aims to examine the frequency of neurological symptoms and complications in COVID-19 patients through a systematic review of literature. The most commonly described neurological symptoms include headache, dizziness, taste and smell dysfunctions, and impaired consciousness. Cerebrovascular events, seizures, meningoencephalitis, and immune-mediated neurological diseases have been reported in smaller studies or single cases, but are not suitable for quantitative analysis.

Difference in levels of SARS-CoV-2 S1 and S2 subunits- and nucleocapsid protein-reactive SIgM/IgM, IgG and SIgA/IgA antibodies in human milk

Veronique Demers-Mathieu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the presence and levels of antibodies reactive to SARS-CoV-2 in human milk, with results showing that these antibodies could provide passive immunity to breastfed infants and protect them against COVID-19. Additionally, the levels of SARS-CoV-2-reactive antibodies were higher in milk from women with viral respiratory symptoms and in the 2020-HM group compared to the 2018-HM group.

Neuroinvasion of SARS-CoV-2 in human and mouse brain

Eric Song et al.

Summary: The study showed through three approaches that SARS-CoV-2 is capable of infecting brain neurons, leading to metabolic changes and pathological features without triggering type I interferon responses. These results provide evidence for the neuroinvasive capacity of SARS-CoV-2 and the unexpected consequence of direct infection of neurons by the virus.

Olfactory transmucosal SARS-CoV-2 invasion as a port of central nervous system entry in individuals with COVID-19

Jenny Meinhardt et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the nasopharynx and brain, suggesting the virus may enter the CNS through the olfactory mucosa. The virus utilizes the neural-mucosal interface in the olfactory mucosa to penetrate the nervous system, affecting various neuroanatomical areas, including the primary respiratory and cardiovascular control center.

Human Milk Antibodies against S1 and S2 Subunits from SARS-CoV-2, HCoV-OC43, and HCoV-229E in Mothers with a Confirmed COVID-19 PCR, Viral SYMPTOMS, and Unexposed Mothers

Veronique Demers-Mathieu et al.

Summary: This study found that mothers with confirmed COVID-19 PCR tests and those with viral symptoms had preexisting human milk antibodies against the S2 subunit of SARS-CoV-2. Human milk IgG were more specific to the S2 subunit of SARS-CoV-2 compared to other antibodies, while SIgA and SIgM were polyreactive and cross-reactive to the S1 or S2 subunits of SARS-CoV-2.

Previous viral symptoms and individual mothers influenced the leveled duration of human milk antibodies cross-reactive to S1 and S2 subunits from SARS-CoV-2, HCoV-229E, and HCoV-OC43

Veronique Demers-Mathieu et al.

Summary: The presence of viral symptoms in mothers affected the levels and duration of antibodies in human milk reactive to SARS-CoV-2 and HCoVs, with durations ranging from 3 to 4 months.
