High-throughput glycopeptide profiling of prostate-specific antigen from seminal plasma by MALDI-MS

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: Altered total seminal plasma glycosylation has been associated with male infertility, but the exact role of PSA glycosylation in male fertility remains unclear. A novel high-throughput PSA glycopeptide workflow was developed for studying PSA glycosylation in seminal plasma, showing complex-type glycans with high levels of fucosylation and sialylation.

Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

The Complexity and Dynamics of the Tissue Glycoproteome Associated With Prostate Cancer Progression

Rebeca Kawahara et al.

Summary: The study utilizes glycomics and glycoproteomics to reveal unique N- and O-glycosylation features in prostate cancer (PCa) tissues, identifying their association with PCa progression. This provides new insights into the complexity and dynamics of the tissue glycoproteome associated with PCa progression, serving as an important resource for exploring the underlying disease mechanisms.

Summary: Prostate cancer, with the highest malignancy rate in men worldwide, has seen a steep increase in false positive diagnoses despite the use of the gold standard PSA assays to reduce mortality. Complementary biomarkers are urgently needed to enhance the specificity and selectivity of current diagnostic methods.
