Dehydrogenation of ammonia borane by dealloyed ruthenium catalysts

Levent Semiz

Summary: In this study, ruthenium catalysts obtained by alloying-dealloying method were used for dehydrogenation reaction of ammonia borane. The sputtering power of aluminum was found to affect the catalytic activity, with the highest turnover frequency calculated as 290.9 min(-1). The activation energy of the dehydrogenation reaction of ammonia borane with Ru particles was determined to be 18.43 kJ mol(-1), and the catalysts could maintain their performance after 10 consecutive runs.

Efficient hydrogen production from ammonia borane hydrolysis catalyzed by TiO2-supported RuCo catalysts

Jiapeng Zhang et al.

Summary: The hydrolysis of ammonia borane is a reliable method for hydrogen production, and TiO2-supported RuCo catalysts synthesized in this study exhibit excellent catalytic performance, especially in alkaline solutions. The Ru1Co9/TiO2 catalyst with a Ru/Co molar ratio of 1:9 shows low activation energy and high turnover frequency for the hydrolysis of ammonia borane. Anatase TiO2-supported catalysts demonstrate better catalytic activity compared to rutile TiO2-supported catalysts or mixtures of anatase and rutile TiO2-supported catalysts.

Ru nanoparticles loaded on tannin immobilized collagen fibers for catalytic hydrolysis of ammonia borane

Ling Fu et al.

Summary: A Ru-based catalyst was prepared using a natural polyphenolic polymer immobilized on collagen fiber as the stabilizer and carrier of Ru nanoparticles. The catalyst exhibited high catalytic activity in the hydrolysis of ammonia borane to produce hydrogen, with a high TOF and low activation energy. It also showed good reusability and stability, with only minor loss of activity and no agglomeration or leakage of Ru nanoparticles after repeated use.

Solid-state NaBH4 composites for hydrogen generation: Catalytic activity of nickel and cobalt catalysts

O. V. Netskina et al.

Summary: In the study, it was found that cobalt catalysts are more active than nickel catalysts in the hydrolysis of sodium borohydride. One reason for the lower activity of nickel catalysts is the presence of hydrogen on its surface, which interferes with reactant adsorption. The addition of cobalt to nickel catalysts can enhance hydrogen generation rate.

Ultrafine PtCo Alloy Nanoclusters Confined in N-Doped Mesoporous Carbon Spheres for Efficient Ammonia Borane Hydrolysis

Linxin Yin et al.

Summary: This study successfully developed a series of ultrafine PtxCo1-x alloy nanoclusters anchored in N-doped mesoporous carbon spheres (N-MCSs) using an enhanced strong electrostatic adsorption (SEA) strategy, showing superior catalytic performance for efficient ammonia borane (AB) hydrolysis. The optimal catalyst Pt0.33Co0.67/N-MCSs exhibited excellent performance with a high specific rate. Mechanistic studies revealed that O-H cleavage of H2O molecules is the rate-determine step in the AB hydrolysis reaction, providing insights for the rational design of cost-effective catalysts.
