This paper proposes a model for predicting fatigue life under multiaxial loading based on dissipated heat during fatigue tests, evaluating fatigue damage by considering different rates of dissipated energy under various multiaxial loadings. The predictive capability of the models is confirmed through comparison with experimental fatigue results.
This paper is devoted to predicting fatigue life under multiaxial loading based on dissipated heat during a fatigue test. In the thermography approach, the total dissipated energy can be evaluated by measuring the specimens' temperature without any estimation about the portions of tensile and shear strain energies. Nevertheless, the fatigue damage associated with tensile and shear strain energies is different. To overcome this challenge, a model is proposed to evaluate the fatigue damage based on heat dissipated under different multiaxial loadings. In the proposed model, the fatigue damage is evaluated by considering the different rates of dissipated energy at a given shear and tensile strain. Fatigue lives are also evaluated using the Ellyin model based on consideration of the total dissipated energy. The predictive capability of these models is verified by comparing them to experimental fatigue results.
