The valorization of the anaerobic digestate from the organic fractions of municipal solid waste: Challenges and perspectives

Research focuses on enhancing bioconversion yields and valorizing process effluents, in line with circular economy principles. The article identifies current strategies for managing digestate and presents both conventional approaches and novel solutions for scale up and future research perspectives.

Effect of synthetic fibers on the properties of geopolymers based on non-heat treated phosphate mine tailing

Summary: This study investigated the use of synthetic fibers as reinforcement for geopolymer matrix produced from phosphate mine tailings. The results showed that adding an appropriate amount of polypropylene and glass fibers significantly increased the flexural strength of the geopolymer composite, with polypropylene fibers also enhancing the ductility of the material.

Application of olive mill waste-based biochars in agriculture: Impact on soil properties, enzymatic activities and tomato growth

Summary: The olive oil industry generates large amounts of olive mill solid wastes and olive mill wastewater, which can be converted into biochar through pyrolysis for agricultural use. The biochar amendments at different application doses have significant effects on enzymatic activities in agricultural soil and promote tomato seedling growth. The produced biochars show great potential as biofertilizers in agriculture.
