This paper presents an intensive review on various microblanking processes, emphasizing the importance of micro manufacturing and the development of microblanking tools and machines in the past two decades. It highlights the importance of improving burnish depth, precision of parts, and meeting industrial applications in future research.
With the development of product miniaturization, micro manufacturing has received widespread attention worldwide in terms of its manufacturing advantages. Microblanking becomes one of the most appropriate technologies to manufacture workpieces with microholes, in particular for bulk production. In this paper, an intensive review on the various microblanking processes is presented. During the product miniaturization, the size effect of rigid blanking technologies and the influence factor of flexible punching are described. Then microblanking tools and machines in the last two decades have been reviewed in detail from fabrication of micro tools and development of microblanking machines and system. It is pointed out how to improve the burnish depth, precision of parts and meet industrial applications that will be the focused directions in the future research.
