Optimal configuration of a tidal current turbine farm in a shallow channel

Summary: This study investigates the macroscopic features of tidal farm layouts optimized for maximum power production in an idealized shallow channel. By varying the number of turbines and optimization constraints, numerical experiments were conducted using an open-source solver. The results show that the optimal layout changes from a linear fence to downstream-concave parabola and then to a V-shape as a nondimensional parameter E increases, with the power production potentially increasing by up to 50% with tuned optimization constraints.
